Consider changes Owen made in Anthem For Doomed Youth....

Consider changes Owen made in Anthem For Doomed Youth. How effective do you find them in presenting the Pity of War? In this essay I intend to analysis how effective the redrafts of the poem Anthem For Doomed Youth by comparing the first and final drafts. I will go about this task by comparing and contrasting the parts of the poem, which have been change to the ones, which appeared in the final draft. The first change that one is confronted with is the change of the title. Owen begins with the word dead, which is changed to doomed. The reason for changing this is because it makes the readers first impressions very deep. The word doomed hits closer to home than the word dead as doomed creates image sin the readers†¦show more content†¦The word fast seems to not be as exploitive enough to help convey the message Owen is attempting to create. This again helps emphasise the Pity of War. In line two the reference to guns is changed from our to the this creates a sense of opposition within the poem again linking in with what the nature of war and creating a sense of them and us this is a very small change but it suggests to the reader that there is no end due to the fact that if the enemy does not stop their fighting then they cannot either. The overall impact of the line of the guns makes the whole connotation seem much more sinister and threatening. In the third line there is a significant change of the phrases Owen uses. It is clear that in the first draft Owen uses personification to an extent that the reader could say he is trying to hard. He then changes technique to one of alliteration and creates a line of riffles rapid fire which is much harder hitting again keeping in the line with the way that Owen is conveying the Pity of War but he also keeps in trend with the two structures of the poem. The line riffles rapid fire has a sense of speed to it, which is what the first stanza is all about. Stuttering is also a significant word, as the action to stutter is to do something again and again just like the gunfire that the soldiers would be subject to. In line four the main change is the usage of the word patter. Customers and New Business Opportunities †Myassignmenthelp.Com

Question: Explain Customers and New Business Opportunities? Answer: Introduction Business organizations that are set up in various parts of the globe are working and collaborating with each other to strengthen their operations and provide the desired services to the customers. Hotel industry is one of the vast and the most significant industries from the viewpoint of the economy of the country. There are organizations and hotels that have been set up on a varying scale of accommodation prices. In order to gain more profits and offer better services to the clients, ten hotel chains have collaborated with each other to execute the business services. The collaboration of these businesses has been given a name of StayTogether which is a hotel chain that will operate as a single unit through a website. Decisions of the Management Customers will be provided with extra benefits through a loyalty programme that will ask the customers to register with the hotel chain and the benefits will be provided in return (Orlitzky, 2015). Buffet breakfast and other services will be provided to the customers and standard charges will be made applicable (McBurney, 2015). Rebates will be provided to the customers if they choose partnered airlines for travel and discounts/credits will also be given on the meals. Customers will be provided with the opportunity to do some charity by collaborating in the corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme. Assumptions Legal formalities have already been done and the contract has already been created with terms of agreements from all the parties. The development and deployment work in association with the web site has been already done. The share of profits that will be carried out between the entities has been done (Popp, 2017). Budget has been created for the project and the funds have been distributed to the management. Schedule has been designed for the project and there are resources already allocated that have required skill sets to perform the responsibilities. IT and IS Issues - Differneces IS stands for Information Systems and IT stands for Information Technology. Both these terms have different meaning and features associated with them; however, they are considered as inter-changeable. IS revolves around the information that is present in the applications and services and deals with its quality along with its availability. Information is a critical asset and there are various operations that are executed on the information, for example, information storage, information gathering, information analysis, information processing etc. Management of the information is what is carried out under IS and the problems and criticalities that are related with it are termed as IS issues. Information is not static when it is related to an application and its transition and flaws that are associated with it come under the gaps related with information (El-Awad, 2017). IT deals with the technicalities of the infrastructure that is present around the applications. Use of technology has become mandatory in case of the organizations and this technology has brought out several issues and concerns. The overall information structure is made up of technologies that are relevant and critical in nature. It is necessary to have an integrated and functional unit in place and the concerns that may emerge for establishing the same come under the IT related matters and concerns (Bruni, 2014). IS Issues and their Impact on Customers The information related to StayTogether will be stored and managed by setting up a database that may be exposed to numerous risks and attacks Confidentiality Attacks Confidentiality of the information present in the database of StayTogether may be affected by occurrence of the attacks such as information breaches, man in the middle attacks, unauthorized tracking, data leakage etc. Integrity Attacks Information will not reside in the database for forever and will be shared and exchanged with other parties and components through the website. There may be alterations that may be done without adequate permissions which will impact the integrity of the application (Chasserio, 2014). Availability Attacks Many of the attacks may be executed on the availability of the information and it may be impacted because of the frequent occurrences of the attacks. There may be issues associated with non-compliance or non-adherence to the quality and ethical standards that may be observed. Users may not feel engaged with the hotel chain if there is no transparency maintained between the user and the organization that is the business side. IS issues that have been illustrated above can have varying degrees of impacts. These impacts, outcomes and consequences will depend upon multiple factors such as the extent of attack that is executed in terms of its severity, parties that are affected etc. Frequent occurrences however will lead to the deterioration of customer involvement and engagement and will also lead to damage on the companys reputation in the market. IT Issues and their Impacts on Customers Technical frameworks, architectures and infrastructure that is associated with StayTogether will be in abundance. These technical entities may suffer from a fault or a breakdown which may lead to an impact on the business continuity. Availability will therefore be impacted because of this reason (Antunes, 2014). In order to make sure that the components that are related with StayTogether deliver the expected results, it will be necessary that the IT components and the various technologies that are present are strongly linked and integrated with each other. Integration of these technologies will provide and allow the organizations to achieve their business goals and objectives quickly (Secundo, 2017). IT issues that have been illustrated above can have varying degrees of impacts. These impacts, outcomes and consequences will depend upon multiple factors such as the extent of attack that is executed in terms of its severity, parties that are affected etc. Frequent occurrences however will lead to the deterioration of customer involvement and engagement and will also lead to damage on the companys reputation in the market (Fengel, 2014). Strategies to Attract New Customers Customers often look for new offerings and deals and may feel disconnected if there are no innovations done at the end of the business side. Also, the customers that are not linked with an organization demands certain unique features in order to get associated and to develop engagement with the organizations. There shall be promotional offers and discount deals that shall be created, advertised and marketed on all the marketing channels so that the customers may have a knowledge about these developments and may connect with the organization. Social media computing and networking will play an important role in connecting with new customers and maintaining engagement with the existing customers. The social media portals such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram etc. shall be used for reaching out to the customers in the form of promotions, contests and discounts. Latest information about the offerings by the organization shall also be included in these social media accounts. Use of BI techniques such as data mining and data analysis shall be used to study the customer data and understand the patterns and preferences that are associated with the users. These patterns and preferences will impart the information related to the likes and dislikes of the customers and will enable StayTogether to improve on the offers and services that they provide to the customers (Wamba, 2017). Online payments are one of the essential parameter that must be paid attention and utilized for attracting more customers. There are cases wherein online payments are considered as not secure and users refrain from making use of the same. However, there are many that look for online payments to be used and applied so that ease of usage is provided. Also, there are several payment companies and gateways that are providing extra discounts and offers to the customers that shall also be included in the payment gateway provided by the hotel chain. Emails and contact details of the customers shall also be utilized so that the customers have the latest information about all the ongoing deals (Brocke, 2014). New Business Opportunities Business practices are facing changes and transformations with each passing day and it has become essential that the business opportunities are expanded with the expansion in the technological structure and framework. StayTogether is a hotel chain and people stay in hotels for two primary reasons as business trips or vacations. In either of the cases, they require a mode of transport to make their trip easy and joyful. Therefore, the organization can partner with a transport agency to include these services in their catalogue. Customers also look for channels to gain maximum information about the place that they are visiting in terms of the things to see in the area, places to eat, activities to be done etc. An itinerary shall therefore be created on request by partnering with tour and travel industries for the customers to offer better and desired services to the customers (Giudice, 2016). Use of BI techniques such as data mining and data analysis shall be done to study the customer data and understand the patterns and preferences that are associated with the users. These patterns and preferences will impart the information related to the likes and dislikes of the customers and will enable StayTogether to improve on the offers and services that they provide to the customers Special treatment and offers shall be provided to the customers so that their engagement with the organization is always maintained (Ferretti, 2016). It is required for the business organizations such as StayTogether to always look for something new to be implemented and offered to the customers so that the engagement with the customers is never reduced and is also moves towards the improvement. There shall be efforts that shall be done so that the new opportunities and vistas are explored and there are no stagnant practices and obsolete processes carried out. Conclusion Hotel industry is one of the most significant industries for every country and there are newer business processes and practices that are being carried out by the hotels that have been set up. These processes and procedures have led to the collaboration of ten different hotels to create one single chain as StayTogether. It is the hotel chain that is made up with the integration of ten hotels to meet the market and business objectives of each. There are several IT and IS issues that are associated with the hotel chain that are required to be handled and managed with utmost care. These issues in association with StayTogether can have varying degrees of impacts. These impacts, outcomes and consequences will depend upon multiple factors such as the extent of attack that is executed in terms of its severity, parties that are affected etc. Frequent occurrences however will lead to the deterioration of customer involvement and engagement and will also lead to damage on the companys reputatio n in the market. It is required for the organization to always look out for the strategies to attract and include more and more number of customers. Use of social media, discount and promotional offers and deals etc shall be done for the same purpose. It is required for the business organizations such as StayTogether to always look for something new to be implemented and offered to the customers so that the engagement with the customers is never reduced and is also moves towards the improvement. Listening and Empathy Responding

Many people spend over 60% of their daily activities communicating and about 40% of that time listening. Therefore, listening and empathy are vital skills we require in order to communicate with others. Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on Listening and Empathy Responding specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More We all desire to be listened to and someone feels insulted when no one pays attention to what we say. Empathy implies the ability to understand another person in a way that you are able to identify and discern his/her feelings. Therefore, a good friend must posses these attributes. Good listening and empathy demonstrate that you care and understand the other person. In fact, people will be more comfortable to share their personal feelings with you. How can you learn to be a good listener as well as be empathetic? There are several steps involved: First of all, you need to learn how to be a good and active listener. Listening is a form of art and demands that we develop an interest to know what the other person is saying. It also means that we shun the many frequent obstacles to effective listening, for example; attempting to read the mind of the speaker, comparing your experience to the speaker, preparing on the type of response to give next, believing that you are always right hence no need to listen, appeasing the talker by agreeing with everything he/she says and changing the topic in a hastily manner. As a result of these obstacles, we are only able to remember about 60% of what the speaker says. It is not easy to listen because our concentration threshold is about 16 minutes. Nonetheless, a good listener irrespective of the distractions always gets back on track and makes inquiries to understand what is being said. A good listener must avoid parochial opinions, prejudices and assuming defensive positions. In addition, a good listener pays close attention to the body language and facial expressions of the speaker. His/her looks maintain eye contact with the speaker and nods on regular basis to encourage the speaker share his/her personal experiences freely.Advertising Looking for essay on communication strategies? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More Second, a good listener understands what empathy responding entails. He/she must respond to let the speaker know that he/she was understood. Usually, when we are offended, we want to articulate and share our feelings with an empathic person. Therefore, a good empathizer concentrates on the speakers’ feelings and not on his/her situation. For instance, when listening to a friend who has just been dumped by his/her lover, do not ask â€Å"how did he/she say it?† but rather, focus on his/her feelings â€Å"you feel dumped and lost†. By doing this, the speaker will be encouraged to investigate the gist of the problem. An empathetic listener helps th e speaker to handle his/her feelings before laying focus on how to solve the problem. There are different levels of empathy responding. Making distracting comments is one of them. For example, a friend is protesting about racial discrimination at school and you say â€Å"the party I attended last night was marvelous!† Many people are guilty of un-empathetic responses. Most of us are constant questioners and instant reassures. In some cases, we view our friend’s problems as intellectual challenges hence we dispose the problem in a short time and without giving it much thought. It is important to note that it takes time and good listening skills to be able to understand what your friend is saying. A good listener is empathic because he/she takes time to understand what the speaker is saying. He keeps eye contacts and leans towards the speaker to assure him/her undivided attention. Finally, a good listener is neither judgmental nor prejudice. He/she focuses on what the s peaker is saying and encourages him to freely share his problems. 12 Research Essay Topics on Apache Native Americans

12 Research Essay Topics on Apache Native Americans If you have to write a research essay on the Apache Native Americans, it is important to substantiate all of the information you present with evidence. It is for this reason that you will find twelve superb facts on Apache Native Americans below which can be used in your research essay writing. Remember that these should be used to support claims you make within the body of your writing: The Apache Native Americans were not immune to the conflicts between settlers and the U.S. Federal rules. These rules and the migration forced many native tribes out of their ancestral lands and onto reservations, a proposition which resulted in backlash at the start by many of the natives. Massacres broke out in response to westward expansion at Sand Creek in 1864 and again at Wounded Knee in 1890 between the United States Army and the Apache Native Americans. The Apache reside in the Southwest deserts, primarily in Arizona, Texas, and New Mexico. Some Apache tribes were captured during the 1800’s and sent to live in Oklahoma, while others remained in New Mexico and Arizona. The Na’ishan are called the Plains Apache and they reside in what is today Oklahoma. This tribe is referred to as the Kiowa-Apaches because many of their customs are similar to the Kiowa allies more so than to the other native Apache tribes. They are still living there today. Today there are 30,000 Apache Native Americans living in the United States. There are 13 Apache tribes living in the United States. Five of the tribes are in Arizona, another five are in New Mexico, and the remaining three are in Oklahoma. Each of the tribes in Arizona and New Mexico has their own reservation. These are lands which are under complete control of the tribes. In Oklahoma, the tribes remain on trust land. Every tribe has many of the same laws, services, and government functions the same as a small country. While living under their own laws, police forces, government, and services, they are nonetheless considered U.S. citizens and required to obey American laws. Historically every Apache band was led by a chief, who was selected for the position by the tribal council. All of the important decisions which had to be made for the band were done so by way of the council. In such situations, each of the members of the council had to agree before any action could be made. In this sense the chief functions more as a chairman for the tribe rather than as a president and his job as to mediate between all members of the council. Today, these tribal councils are still used for the Apache tribes. Today the Apache Native Americans speak a native Apache tongue close to that of Navajo but they also speak English. The Apache language is one with many different vowel sounds and tones, which can be difficult for non-native speakers to pronounce. Apache Native American children will enjoy schooling, chores, and playing the same as other children. Historically, they would complete more chores and enjoy more play time on par with colonial children but today many children enjoy fishing and hunting with their fathers. Today the children enjoy archery games, learn how to ride horses, and have toys and dolls. The Apache women were tasked with taking care of the home which included taking care of their children and cooking, but extended to include the construction of new houses for the family whenever the tribe had to change their location. The girls learned how to ride horses and shoot the same as the boys, and in some cases the women of the tribe were able to defend the villages when an attack took place. Nonetheless, it was rare for Apache women to serve as warriors. The men were the warriors, the hunters, and the political leaders who could be appointed chief of the tribe. Both men and women were involved in traditional medicine, story-telling, art, and music. The Apache Native Americans resided in wickiups, which were small dwellings about the size of camping tents, which were constructed out of wood frames covered in brush matting and a buffalo tarp. These could be set up in as little as two hours if there existed enough brush in the new location. The reason for this is that the Apache beliefs require the homes to be burned down and rebuilt in cases where a family member dies. For this reason the structure remains simple and the construction quick. Those Apache residing in the Plains, or Oklahoma, used the tipis as their housing where were also covered in buffalo hide but were easier to heat and offered more space. Today the people reside in modern homes with very few tribal members residing in modernized wickiups. Those who still follow the Apache beliefs remain in the wickiups because they can be burned down while an apartment cannot. The Apache women would historically dress in dresses made of buckskin while the men would wear breechcloths and leather war shirts. After Mexican influence in the 1800’s the men began to wear white cotton pants and tunics while the women wore skirts and dresses in calico. The tribes would wear moccasins or moccasin boots for their feet. The dresses for ladies and warrior shirts for men were decorated with fringe and beads, many of which were symbolic. The Plains Apache tribes living in Oklahoma took after the Kiowas and wore the feather war bonnets. For ceremonies, special masks and head dresses made of wood were worn. The women wore their long hair down or in a bun, secured with a hair ornament called the nah-leens. The men would keep their hair at shoulder length, save for those in the Plains area. Both men and women would wear choker-style necklaces and shell jewelry and would paint their faces on religious, special, or festive occasions. These facts will definitely help you in writing a research essay. The story of Apache is very interesting, so you don’t need to worry that you’ll not have enough information for your paper. Stereotypes of Italian Americans in Film and Television

Stereotypes of Italian Americans in Film and Television Italian Americans  may be European in ancestry, but they were not always treated as white in the United States, as the pervasive stereotypes about them demonstrate. Not only did Italian immigrants to America face employment discrimination in their adopted homeland, but they also faced violence by whites who viewed them as â€Å"different.† Because of their once marginalized status in this country, ethnic stereotypes of Italians persist in film and television. On the big and small screen, alike, Italian Americans are all too often portrayed as mobsters, thugs and peasants hawking spaghetti sauce. While Italian Americans have made great strides in U.S. society, their characterization in popular culture remains stereotypical and troublesome. Mobsters Fewer than .0025 percent of Italian Americans are involved in organized crime, according to the  Italian American News website. But one would be hard-pressed to know that from watching Hollywood television shows and movies, where just about every Italian family has mob ties. In addition to films such as â€Å"The Godfather,† â€Å"Goodfellas,† â€Å"Casino† and â€Å"Donnie Brasco,† television shows such as  Ã¢â‚¬Å"The Sopranos,† â€Å"Growing Up Gotti† and â€Å"Mob Wives† have perpetuated the idea that Italian Americans and organized crime go hand-in-hand. While many of these films and shows  have won critical praise, they do little to complicate the image Italian Americans have in popular culture. Food-Making  Peasants Italian cuisine is among the most popular in the United States. Accordingly, a number of television commercials depict Italians and Italian  Americans flipping pizzas, stirring tomato sauce and squashing grapes. In many of these commercials, Italian Americans are portrayed as heavily accented, robust peasants. The Italian American News website describes how a Ragu commercial features â€Å"several elderly, overweight Italian American women in housedresses [who] are so delighted with Ragu’s meat sauce that they turn somersaults and play leapfrog in a meadow.† An undue amount of food ads portray Italian women as â€Å"elderly, overweight housewives and grandmothers wearing black dresses, housecoats or aprons,† the site reports. â€Å"Jersey Shore† When MTV reality series â€Å"Jersey Shore† debuted, it became a pop culture sensation. Viewers of all ages and ethnic backgrounds faithfully tuned in to watch the group of mostly Italian American friends hit the bar scene, work out at the gym, tan and do laundry. But  prominent Italian-Americans protested  that the bouffant-haired stars of the show- self-described Guidos and Guidettes- were spreading  negative stereotypes about Italians. Joy Behar,  co-host of ABC’s â€Å"The View,† said that â€Å"Jersey Shore† did not represent her culture. â€Å"I do have a master’s degree, so a person like me is rather annoyed with a show like that because I went to college, you know, to better myself, and then these idiots come out and make Italians look bad,† she said. â€Å"It’s awful. They should go to Firenze and Rome and Milano and see what Italians really did in this world. It’s irritating.† Bigoted Thugs Anyone familiar with Spike Lee’s films knows that he has persistently depicted Italian Americans as dangerous, racist thugs from New York City’s working class. Italian Americans such as these can be found in a number of Spike Lee films, most notably â€Å"Jungle Fever,† â€Å"Do The Right Thing† and â€Å"Summer of Sam.† When Lee criticized Django Unchained  director Quentin Tarantino for turning slavery into a spaghetti Western,  Italian groups called him a hypocrite because of the thread of anti-Italian bias that runs through his films, they said. â€Å"When it comes to Italian Americans, Spike Lee has never done the right thing,† said Andre DiMino, president of the Italian American One Voice Coalition. â€Å"One wonders if Spike Lee is indeed a racist who hates Italians and why he harbors a grudge.† One Voice voted Lee into its Hall of Shame because of his portrayals of Italian Americans. In particular, the group criticized â€Å"Summer of Sam† because the movie â€Å"descends into a panoply of negative character portrayals, with Italian Americans as mobsters, drug dealers, drug addicts, racists, deviants, buffoons, bimbos, and sex-crazed fiends.†

What aurguments can you make, for and against, the assertion that democracy has made striking progress in the world during the past decade - Essay Example In a democratic system of governance, eligible citizens choose and replace the government via free and fair elections, all citizens enjoy the protection of human rights, there is freedom and rule of law, and citizens participate actively in all national matters. As such, democracy respects human rights, elections, women, and civil society. Democracy contrasts a monarch or an oligarchy. However, there has been an assertion that democracy has made striking progress in the world during the past decade. This paper will draw arguments for and against the progress of democracy in Turkey, Libya, and Egypt. Turkey may assume the definition of a democratic, unitary, and constitutional nation with a huge cultural diversity. It has a parliamentary system of governance and its constitution governs the centralized state. The nation has respect free and fair elections where eligible citizens elect a president for a seven-year term. The nation has universal suffrage for both sexes where all citizens above 18 years of age have the right to vote. Indeed, all citizens can participate in independent political organizations, access information and services, and own private property. In the past decades, Turkey has grown in terms of protection of fundamental rights and freedoms where perpetrators of extrajudicial killings can now face trial. Moreover, the military have taken control of the government for three times but later withdraws to allow for the resumption of democratic governance. (Turkone 1). Additionally, Turkey have shown great respect for the rule of law and the Sacred Law, as well as embracing cultural diversity and respect for the ethnic minority. Notably, previous governments introduced successive phases of limited democracy in preparation for full democracy as they encouraged the rise of civil society. However, the progress of democracy in Turkey has been very challenging as the country faced various controversies (Lewis 1) about individual liberties and freedom of w omen. Indeed, the country’s address on the  Kurdish issue (Turkone 1) contracts democratic ideals and human rights in Turkey faced international condemnation where Turkey violated the most human rights in the Council of Europe. The country had no respect for Kurdish rights, the right to life, women's rights and press freedom, and freedom from torture. The country exercised major crackdowns on press freedoms and arrested many journalists. Moreover, the constitutional problems in Turkey challenge democratic ideals. Notably, Turkey lacks a democratic identity and a democratic tradition but has made significant progress in the last decade. On the other hand, Libya is a parliamentary nation under a temporary Constitutional Declaration and governed by the General National Congress. Libya has depicted total disregard for democracy in the past decade. Indeed, the former president of Libya, Gaddafi rose to power through a military coup and ruled for 40 years. He had no respect for d emocracy as he retained all power, disregarded civil society, had no respect for human rights, and did not allow for active participation in national matters by the Libyans (â€Å"UN† 1). Libya banned all political parties from 1972 and all elections were nonpartisan under law. Indeed, Libyans did not participate in democratic elections for 47 years (â€Å"Foreign and Commonwealth Office† 1). However, the urge for democracy led to the revolution, which removed the Gadhafi government. Indeed, the National Transitional Council introduced multiparty democracy as the face of the revolution. Notably, the NTC declared Libya as a new democracy in 2010 where it promised to guarantee the rule of law, respect for civic and human
